All My Sons by Arthur Miller
All My Sons is an Arthur Miller classic story of war profiteering and its tragic consequences on the lives of the families around which it revolves.
It's a powerful story that has always appealed to many who love the theatre, but it's also a great evening for those who may not be regular theatre goers. In All My Sons, Miller examines the morality of the man who places his narrow responsibility to his immediate family above his wider responsibility to the men who rely on the integrity of his work. In the aftermath of World War II, two families struggle to come to terms with the brutal reality of what they have lost and gained. The confrontations that ensue lead to the uncovering of a shameful family secret.
Provocative and heart-breaking, All My Sons is a compelling story of love, guilt and the corrupting power of greed. You'd be hard-pressed to find a more raw-nerved narrative than Miller's drama about the remains of two families crippled by grief and guilt and suspicion. The action of the play is set in August 1947, in the mid-west of the USA.
